 AOWCGWA-FORT MYER THRIFT SHOP HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

 

The Army Officers' Wives' Club of the Greater Washington Area (AOWCGWA) along with the AOWCGWA-Fort Myer Thrift Shop will award academic scholarships to qualified graduating high school seniors who are sons or daughters of active-duty, retired, or deceased U.S. ARMY personnel.  The applicant will be enrolled in a full or part-time post-secondary program for the 2010-2011 academic school year.  The award will be made on the basis of scholastic merit and community involvement only.  The sponsor and applicant must reside in the Greater Washington Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area. The only exceptions to the residency area are coded unaccompanied tours.

 

Those students accepting a service academy appointment, or any other full scholarship may not accept this award.  Also, an applicant who receives an this  scholarship and later becomes eligible for and accepts a scholarship in the aforementioned categories must forego this award. This award cannot be deferred

to a future academic year. 

 

COMPLETE AND RETURN ALL PARTS OF THE APPLICATION IN ONE ENVELOPE.  THE SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE WILL NOT CONSIDER INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS.   ALL INFORMATION MUST BE COMPLETE AND MUST INCLUDE AN EMAIL ADDRESS.  THIS MAY BE A PERSONAL EMAIL ADDRESS, A

SCHOOL EMAIL ADDRESS, OR A PARENT’S OR GUARDIAN’S EMAIL ADDRESS.  PLEASE PUT YOUR APPLICATION IN THE FOLLOWING ORDER:

7.  The applicant and applicant’s sponsor must sign this COMPLETED application form on the lines indicated below.

 

 PART B:

Attach an OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT of your grades covering the first six  (6) semesters of high school (through the last semester of your junior year),

and SAT or ACT scores.

 

PART C:

        On a separate sheet of paper with only your social security number for identification, list the following:

1. Your extracurricular activities, honors, faith-related activities, community service, and employment and the time frame for each activity

(i.e. freshman year, sophomore year, junior year, senior year)

2.  List the three (3) most important activities to you and briefly explain why.

3.  List every high school (and location of school) that you have attended.

 

PART D:

       On a second sheet of paper with only your social security number for identification, address the following:  Cite one experience in your life,

as the son or daughter of an Army parent, and explain how this experience influenced your decisions about pursuing a college education. 

Approximately 200-300 words or 2-3 typed double-spaced pages.

 

PART E:

        On a third sheet of paper with only your social security number for identification, list the following:

1.  Colleges to which you have applied.

2.  Colleges to which you have been accepted.

 

PART F:

        One (1) letter of recommendation from a school official, counselor, teacher, present or former employer, or community leader. 

The Letter of Recommendation must be INCLUDED WITH THE APPLICATION in a sealed envelope marked PART F and must include

a telephone number and address where the person writing the Letter of Recommendation can be reached.  After identifying the

applicant by name ONE time in the introduction, the writer should then use “he” or “she” throughout the recommendation.

 

PART G:

       READABLE Photocopy (front and back) of military dependent ID Card

 

PART H:

       Please complete and sign the SEPARATE Scholarship Agreement Form. (This agreement should be downloaded with the application.)

 

I UNDERSTAND THAT BY SIGNING THE ENCLOSED SCHOLARSHIP AGREEMENT, IF I AM AWARDED THIS SCHOLARSHIP I WILL ABIDE BY THE TERMS STIPULATED.
